For literally hundreds of years Santa Fe has been known for the unique items sold in and around the town.  The opportunity to view and purchase authentic regional handmade jewelry, weaving, wares, furniture and art make visiting Santa Fe and the surrounding areas a truly unique experience.  Unfortunately, as is happening around the world, misrepresented and counterfeit goods have made their way to a few shops in Santa Fe.  In order to avoid being taken advantage of, it’s important shoppers make an extra effort to be aware of what they are purchasing, and to not be afraid to ask questions.

Oftentimes stores selling misrepresented goods fail to mark prices on the items, or readily start to bargain with you on price.  Many stores offering low quality merchandise have deep store-wide discounts advertised in the windows. If you are uncertain about a store or item, why not take a “test” by inquiring about the price of an inexpensive item to see how the transaction is handled.  This may give you an excellent idea of who you are dealing with.  Deep discounts usually do not translate into authentic, quality made merchandise.
